CTE at a Glance

The goal of District of Columbia Public Schools’ (DCPS) Career and Technical Education Office is to ensure that DCPS schools are offering high-quality CTE programs of study and Career Academies that align with the District’s high-wage, high-demand careers.

DCPS is committed to strengthening the CTE high school and middle school programming.

Why CTE?

Participating in CTE programs help prepare students for multiple postsecondary opportunities. Students build professional and academic confidence while participating in CTE programs through:

  • Rigorous and engaging project-based learning
  • Sequential career-themed courses
  • Work-based learning opportunities, including paid internships
  • Industry-recognized certifications
  • Early college credits

CTE @ DPCS

DCPS offers 50+ CTE programs within 24 Career Education Pathways across 17 of our high schools. Within these programs, 12 of our high schools utilize the NAF College & Career Academy program model.
